Founded in 1994 by local artists and activists and unaffiliated with any larger institution, KidsArts! is still the only EEC-licensed after school program to focus on the arts and creative enrichment for elementary-school-aged children, out of the thirteen after schools in the Jamaica Plain area.
As emphasis on high-stakes testing has increasingly driven the focus of public education, especially in urban areas, KidsArts! has remained an independent program offering an accessible choice where children’s creative and social intelligence is nurtured.
KidsArts! is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization run by a parent-led volunteer board of directors which oversees a small but talented and diverse staff. Our funding comes mostly from full- and sliding scale-tuition fees and MA DEEC childcare vouchers. However, to meet our budget and to ensure that this resource is available to all area children, we also seek grants and rely on the generosity of individuals and local businesses in making contributions.
